Fishnet tights & socks are in fashion for Spring 2017

April 1, 2017 under Runway

Lately I had many inquiries about fishnet socks, especially short ankle ones. There seems to be a trend on the runway to wear anything fishnet, like tops and tights.

Here is one of my photos from Instagram, taken recently, of my legs in fancy fishnet tights. It’s not a new pair, but all the sudden I feel more fashionable about wearing it.

Five pin bowling is so much fun!

August 15, 2016 under Travel

I shall say that this is the first time in almost a decade that I am going bowling. I’ve been asking many times to go, but then something would come up. Coincidentally I got my hands on a coupon book that offered a deal on bowling and I took off there with my teen cousin who is visiting from abroad.

She spent at least an hour getting ready, so I figured to put on a funky shirt and some cool fishnets (a gift from a fan, thanks Marty!) to share her enthusiasm. She is wearing Maloria tights by Fiore in case you are wondering with tight gym shorts over them.

We were both surprised that this bowling alley only had 5 pin version and smaller balls. Turns out that this is a true Canadian way to bowl. It is a little bit tougher to play than regular 10 pin bowling. We had a lot of fun and it was a new challenge for both of us.

Miranda Kerr in a Circus Outfit and Pantyhose

December 6, 2012 under Famous

I came across this outfit that the fashion model Miranda Kerr wore to a Halloween party – she is supposed to be the circus presenter.  Sexy!  I wonder what her hubby, Orlando Bloom, wore to the party.

Hope Solo, both famous athlete and troublemaker, runs around in pantyhose

July 29, 2012 under Famous

This photo was taken before “dancing with the stars” according to what I found online – she was a contestant for 2011 paired with Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

There she is, beautiful and provocative!  She used to be a model before her soccer career.  Even though she is wearing fishnets, I am glad to see that she is in fact wearing some kind of hosiery.  Better than going bare legged!

That’s one sexy goalkeeper lady!  Good luck to her during 2012 Olympics.

Denier for Fishnets? I didn’t know it was possible.

July 16, 2012 under Practical

These are the fishnet stay up stockings that said “40 den” on the package.

Denier is a measurement that majority of the people are not familiar with in North America.  I knew what it means from an early age, but I guess there is always more to learn.

Recently I bought a pair of fishnets that said “40 den”.  I was kind of surprised that fishnets would indicate that.  On the other hand, many other cheaper brands stopped indicating denier all together.

Here is a good answer from HosieryNovelties on Twitter.

@HosieryNoveltie wrote:

The deniers define at 1st the weight of the yarn, and only indirectly the sheerness, that’s why.  It’s 1 den if 9,000 meters of yarn weight 1 gram. Every yarn has a weight, including those used for fishnets.  The heavier the yarn, the more opaque the hosiery tends to be. That’s why I said the mark of sheerness is only indirect.  Note, weight and opacity don’t always go together. There are sheer pantyhose with high deniers.

I thought it was a very good point, so I decided to share it with you.  Weave of hosiery for sure also plays a big role.

Fishnet pantyhose – from runway, to glamour, to workplace

March 24, 2012 under Style

Nude or beige fishnet seems to become a new standard for fashionable and presentable women.  Here is a photo of Jeanne Beker (60 years old!) who is a Canadian fashion star.  She is sitting on a chair and describing what her model is wearing.

But… Jeannie is in some kind of hosiery, the model isn’t.  How come?

I went to see her presentation in Vancouver.  She was dressed formal, with a black jacket that had a subtle sparkly texture, and nude fishnets to my surprise.  Her models though didn’t wear any hosiery to my disappointment, really not sure why.

Later I went to a similar presentation for another collection.  Models were dressed in winter clothing without any hosiery.  You know, not everyone’s legs look so good… one girl had bruises as if she played soccer, another girl had some kind of red spots resembling an allergy, and all the other girls looked really out of context with bare legs and a jacket.  I couldn’t take it, so after the show I came up to one of the stylists and asked why it’s like this.  She told me that they should have worn nude fishnets, but the stylists forgot about it because they were focused on the clothing only.

Hosiery Association recommends for women who like fishnets to wear smaller, more tightly knitted fishnet of muted colours like charcoal or nude to the office.  They also admit that before it wasn’t an acceptable option for the office, but now it is OK.  I can understand why.  It’s more durable and doesn’t run if damaged.
