White Pantyhose at Pride Parade

April 28, 2014 under Photoshoots

I found these photos on another fashion blog, they are from 2011. The owner of the blog said that this is what she wore to the Pride Parade.

I have no idea where she went for Pride, but based on the architecture and a few other hints on that blog it’s most likely Russia. Where else would you see a woman that excited about wearing white pantyhose in public with a mini skirt?

She wears nude pantyhose, but is it outdated?

nude shiny pantyhose

I got this photo from another blogger and her post was from 2011. She was saying that she wore a mini dress with nude pantyhose. Well, I see why, she wore platform shoes with it that I doubt would feel comfortable if worn without any hosiery.

However, in terms of the look, would you say that it’s rare to see such a mini dress paired with hosiery in general? I can totally hear some fashion critics saying how this is a bad idea to wear pantyhose with a summer outfit, especially shiny.

Styling Shorts and Pantyhose

April 19, 2014 under Seasonal

I saw these photos from a while back (3 years ago) on another blog. The owner of the blog combined shorts, pantyhose, and a summer top.

She’s Eastern European,  but I have a feeling she probably resides somewhere in Finland.

Anyway, this would be so rare to see in North America! Agree?

Is white pantyhose still trendy?

April 14, 2014 under Photoshoots

You’ll probably agree with me, but white is the toughest colour to see on people in terms of hosiery. It’s so rare! It could be a fun colour for the summer though if worn properly.

I saw this photoshoot from another blogger and thought to share it with you. She looks so pretty and somehow managed to make her whole outfit work out perfectly.

She is Russian and I think she lives around there. But in my city (Vancouver, BC) for example such outfit could perhaps only be seen on Asian girls.

Pantyhose and Open Toe Shoes Debate

September 18, 2013 under Style

pantyhose and sandals 1Can pantyhose be worn with sandals?  Some fashion experts say yes, some say no. Whoever says “yes” from the fashion world states that such pantyhose should be maximum 10 den for such a summer look.

In the photo here we see the feet of Alexandra Savelyeva, a Russian singer, who participated in a fashion TV program and addressed the subject.

In that show, together with the host, Max Chernitsov (fashion designer), they came to a conclusion that in the summer pantyhose and sandals are fine as long as there are no seams showing and they match closely to the skin tone of the wearer.

Another popular Russian stylist said that pantyhose with open toe shoes is OK as long as it is ultra sheer, 5 – 8 den, so it doesn’t look  heavy.  However, on the runway from time to time we see women in opaques marching with open-toe shoes.

I guess that Alexandra (Sasha) Savelyeva followed such advice and actually wore barely there skin tone pantyhose with a mini dress to an event.  The photo displayed here of her wearing a dress and peep toe shoes is from there.

But she got criticized beyond belief by other people who said that if she dared to wear a mini, she should also dare to go with bare legs.  Perhaps they didn’t watch that show! I’d rather focus on the fact that her shoes and her dress don’t go so well together.

What is your opinion on sandals worn with pantyhose?

Nylon Socks and Open Toe Summer Shoes

Such combination is considered to be OK.

Past summer there was a trend, at least in Asia, of such combinations.  What are your thoughts on that?  I even saw some in our local store and thought it was terrible, but my Chinese friend explained to me that it was actually a popular trend.

Russian stylists also addressed the topic, but said that it’s something for women who are under 20 years old.

No way! Ugly! Only for grandmothers.

Another designer, Maxim Chernitsov, ridiculed it when women wear nude nylon socks with open toe shoes to avoid getting blisters because it him it was something a grandmother would do only.

Would you ever wear summer shoes with nylon socks?

But isn’t this one kind of hot?

July 28th – 1 year since Sweet n Pantyhose passed away

Sweet n Pantyhose 1 year since she passed away

This photo is taken from the memorial page of Sweet n Pantyhose – https://www.facebook.com/Stage4ColonCancer#

July 28, 2012 – this is the day when Sweet n Pantyhose passed away due to colon cancer that she was courageously fighting.

Perhaps I’ve never had a chance to meet this wonderful woman in person, but it doesn’t mean that she hasn’t affected my life, the same way she as affected lives of many.

Just recently on my Hawaiian vacation I put on a swimsuit over shiny pantyhose to take some sexy leg photos like she used to do.  Right away I thought about her, that style of modeling is something that I associate with Sweet.  Sunny beach, waves, and her cheerful smile and legs in shiny hosiery was a common scene in her modeling portfolio.

I would like to offer my condolences to Outlaw, her loving husband.  We miss her so much.  She became a legend for all her work and influence in the hosiery community.

Tribute to Sweet n Pantyhose

September 18, 2012 under Art

People are dealing with the hard facts to accept about the loss of our pantyhose enthusiast, Sharri, also known as Sweet n Pantyhose.  She passed away in the summer due to cancer.  One of her fans, Aton, created this artistic tribute in the memory of her.

Sharri loved to be on the beach and she even filmed some of her videos from there.  Also, she was a very sweet girl – that’s why the sky has the pattern of a honey comb.

This drawing was done in Photoshop based on some real life photos of Sharri.  You can see more work by Aton here: http://atondigitalart.blogspot.com/

Denier for Fishnets? I didn’t know it was possible.

July 16, 2012 under Practical

These are the fishnet stay up stockings that said “40 den” on the package.

Denier is a measurement that majority of the people are not familiar with in North America.  I knew what it means from an early age, but I guess there is always more to learn.

Recently I bought a pair of fishnets that said “40 den”.  I was kind of surprised that fishnets would indicate that.  On the other hand, many other cheaper brands stopped indicating denier all together.

Here is a good answer from HosieryNovelties on Twitter.

@HosieryNoveltie wrote:

The deniers define at 1st the weight of the yarn, and only indirectly the sheerness, that’s why.  It’s 1 den if 9,000 meters of yarn weight 1 gram. Every yarn has a weight, including those used for fishnets.  The heavier the yarn, the more opaque the hosiery tends to be. That’s why I said the mark of sheerness is only indirect.  Note, weight and opacity don’t always go together. There are sheer pantyhose with high deniers.

I thought it was a very good point, so I decided to share it with you.  Weave of hosiery for sure also plays a big role.

Magic of Pantyhose in Eastern Europe

June 7, 2012 under Style
Malboro model in pantyhose in Ukraine

Malboro promotion in Ukranian duty free shop

I had an opportunity to spend a couple of weeks of summer in multiple Eastern European countries and observe at least one third of women proudly wearing pantyhose.

In general, in that region women put more effort to look their best even if they are going to do their daily chores.  Looking good is an expectation.  Maybe not explicit, but it’s always there.

Ukraine: beautiful Barbie is wearing nude pantyhose

Borispol airport in Ukraine seemed to be the hottest place throughout my trip, temperature wise and fashion wise.

As an example, I’ve seen a beautiful brunette model
promoting Malboro cigarettes at the duty free store.  She was very friendly and gladly posed for a photo.  Her sporty outfit looked stunning with a pair of shiny pantyhose.

Again, at the same airport, I saw a beautiful Barbie Girl who was catching a flight to Sofia, Bulgaria.  She was wearing nude pantyhose with her pink outfit despite the hot weather.

Ukraine: airport female staff were wearing skirts and pantyhose.

I remember hearing results of a survey why Arab men prefer to date Eastern European women.  One thing from the responses that shocked me was “these women look after themselves even after marriage”.  I was surprised to realize that this statement implied that some women don’t.

For the record, I noticed that the Barbie girl had a ring on her finger.  Yes, such beautiful women don’t stay single for long.

Chopin airport in Warsaw was not far behind.  There were a lot of fancy women there, both staff and tourists, wearing pantyhose.  Considering that in most airports photography is not allowed, I had to be quite careful in order to get a few sneak peeks for you.

Poland: blond flight attendant is wearing chocolate colour pantyhose

In Poland I was pleased to see a beautiful blond woman checking boarding passes while wearing chocolate pantyhose.  What a rare sight!  I think it’s only possible in Eastern Europe.   Brown is a very rare colour these days and somehow it doesn’t get recommended for fair skinned people.  I remember how in our Vancouver Wolford boutique staff were just adamant about me expressing an interest in a tan shade darker then my own skin tone.

In LED airport in Russia I also saw a lot of pantyhose, but with their tough security I decided not to play with the rules.  Of course, that vast country is full of women of all ages and sizes in pantyhose.  Teens, grandmothers, young moms… they all wear it.  Fashion stores have great hosiery selection, including brands like Falke.

Some curious bullet points here about Eastern Europe:

Russia: even young moms go out in sexy outfits!

  • reinforced toes are frequently worn even with sandals
  • plain pantyhose greatly outnumber patterns
  • nude seems to be the most popular colour for plain hosiery
  • black is the most popular colour for patterns
  • pantyhose commercials on TV and banners for brands like Conte
  • layering is OK, i.e. wearing beige fishnets over sheer nude pantyhose
  • even plus size ladies wear it (I saw a mature woman in bright orange tights)

Russia: size and age are no obstacle to wear hosiery!

So friends, if you would like to make this summer full of nylon legs, book a flight to Eastern Europe for an unforgettable pantyhose experience!
