Fishing Time – Do Sheer Tights Protect from Mosquitoes?

Summer heat. I love water… any water, even if it is just a puddle after rain.

So, you can imagine how happy I was when my friends announced that they are going fishing. Tomorrow. Early in the morning, before the dawn. I am a night-owl, getting up in the morning for me is a torture, but…  fishing equals being near water, probably, a large body of water, like a river or a lake.

Have I mentioned by the way that I have a fishing rod? That’s a funny story; no, am not into fishing. I was coming home from a small trip in my car, when I saw something strange – many people, maybe a hundred of them, like ants, are crowding on a small bridge. I thought something happened, stopped and went to check if I can be somehow useful. And yes, something was happening there, right at the moment – they had a fishing tournament, in a small stream. I even asked to take a photo with them, and the organizers presented me a fishing rod.

So, I have a fishing rod. I unburied it from piles of things that are still loaded in the corner after moving, found my backpack that I was using for hiking in Norway – and am ready to the trip! Though…  Mexico is famous for its mosquitoes, those small ugly creatures that are able to spoil all the pleasure. But I had a solution! Sheer tights, I had read that they protect from insects, and I wanted to believe in that, as I did not have time to buy repellent.

After some hours, when we arrived to a sleepy yet mountain lake, I regretted that I had tights on instead of jeans as well as that I went to that trip at all. Mosquitoes were happy to see me, I had never seen so many of them before. They were flying around me trying to bite, and I was trying to remember what I know about malaria, zika and other illnesses that mosquitoes transfer: I was sure that I will get at least one of them. That lasted several minutes, though it felt like a year for me…

Then I noticed it.

Mosquitoes, they were coming, checking and… flying away. I thought that tights were helping till I noticed that those insects ignore me – I did not get a single bite: hands, arms, legs – nowhere! While my friends (none of them came to an idea to put on tights of even thin socks, all were wearing jeans or thick clothes to protect themselves from insects) were suffering badly. Mosquitoes were practically eating them up.

So, what`s wrong with me? Maybe because am not a Mexican, a “strange blood”? Do not know, but after the trip one thing became evident: local needle-nosed pests dislike me. The trip was good, the amazing mountain lake was worth writing poems about. But I am feeling offended.

Guelaguetza Mexican Festival – culture, dancing, and some “dare to eat” delicacies

July 21, 2017 under Travel

By Helene, Mexico. A little detour from pantyhose for the sake of the love of culture and festivals. This event happened on July 15th, meaning last weekend.

Can heavy rain can be an obstacle for a holiday, even the most waited for?

This Saturday we went out to catch the last calenda of Guelaguetza – an amazing procession of representatives from all corners of Oaxaca, a state in the very heart of Mexico.

This was an unforgettable plunge into centuries ago, when people believed that each stone is alive. It’s like having a flash back to the times when indigenous tribes were the masters of their lands, the times of great civilizations which are believed to have vanished.

Though, here, in the heart of Mexico, old traditions are kept even in everyday life, and during Guelaguetza they come alive like hundreds of years ago.

Wearing gold? Why not, as gold was as common as dirt at the festival.

Are you from far mountains? Welcome here to dance!

Rain? You have already forgotten about it, and some mezcal in an improvised chili-glass that dancers are giving to anybody willing to try will make you want to dance as well. Just take off your modern shoes and put on the hand-made sandals that dancers are wearing. Now you are one of them, those indigenous who came to visit their successors. Take a ripe pineapple and dance with the girls from Pineapple valley. Or do you prefer the bright colours of Villa de Zaachillla?

But all ends sooner or later. The calenda is over, the dancers went to have rest before tomorrow`s performance – the last day of Guelaguetza.

I returned home and changed out of my soaked clothing and shoes into a slim black dress, a pair of ultra sheer tights, and my favourite high heel sandals. Inspired by all that I saw, I decided to go out for…

Guess what for?

Have you ever tried grasshoppers? Fried, with chili, this time they were served with pasta and cheese and were not so grasshoppish. And well, that was OK, even very fine. Ok, OK, just for a change…

Plum jam with chili.

The plums were delicious! I got it in a small plastic bag – just caught it during the procession, as the dancers were throwing in crowd all that they make or grow. Thus I came home with a bag full of home-made bread, a sombrero, and many little things of I-don’t-know-what, like these plums (if those were indeed plums).

I am already looking for the next Guelaguetza, even though this one has finished just today, several hours ago. Moreover, am sure that I will come to visit it wherever in the world I am. Just to plunge once more in childhood where we were watching films about ancient civilizations and dreaming of visiting those times and places. Here, in Oaxaca, it became my reality.

Five pin bowling is so much fun!

August 15, 2016 under Travel

I shall say that this is the first time in almost a decade that I am going bowling. I’ve been asking many times to go, but then something would come up. Coincidentally I got my hands on a coupon book that offered a deal on bowling and I took off there with my teen cousin who is visiting from abroad.

She spent at least an hour getting ready, so I figured to put on a funky shirt and some cool fishnets (a gift from a fan, thanks Marty!) to share her enthusiasm. She is wearing Maloria tights by Fiore in case you are wondering with tight gym shorts over them.

We were both surprised that this bowling alley only had 5 pin version and smaller balls. Turns out that this is a true Canadian way to bowl. It is a little bit tougher to play than regular 10 pin bowling. We had a lot of fun and it was a new challenge for both of us.

My trip to Vancouver

May 5, 2016 under Travel

It’s been over a year since I moved away to Calgary and finally an opportunity turned up to go for a week to Vancouver, back to where I spent several years of my life. I am loving every moment by the ocean.

I got back, saw my familiar surroundings, and had a few teary moments. Oh, I miss it, I can’t even explain how much. Hopefully it will work out for me to move back within a couple of years. I even already checked some real estate listings.

Shopping in Vancouver:

I was trying on these purple shoes by Prada. What do you think?

Vancouver has the best sushi! I also got to visit my friend and she prepared home-made fish for me. It was delicious.

X Burlesque Show in Las Vegas

August 4, 2014 under Travel

Jessica from Fantasy Stockings in Las Vegas

One of the shows that I really wanted to see in Las Vegas was X-Burlesque. I was really excited about it, so I put on some sexy stockings with a garter belt and a sparkly dress. As I was walking around, people thought I was part of the entertainment crew because of all the glitter.

It was a really nice production and all the dancers had amazing endurance to last through that entire show. There was a lovely scene with sheer stay up stockings when dancers were taking them off each other. Otherwise, they only had fishnet stockings throughout the show.

This show is a topless show, so it was made clear on the ticket and you actually had to initial it that you understand what you are about to see. I would appreciate if there would be more build up or more tease factor leading to the topless part. Somehow in my opinion they took off the tops too soon.

From a professional point of view I think that the dancers could move more uniformly, as they were not synchronized well at some points. If it would be up to me, I’d probably make a requirement for dancers not to have any tattoos. Let’s say, when I am thinking about sexuality, I really don’t want to get distracted by a childish “hello kitty” tattoo that one of the girls had.

Probably the part that I enjoyed the most was the pole dance and the scenes with the bathtub. I liked it overall, I think it’s a fun show to see for couples.

Joshua Tree Park and Pantyhose

August 3, 2014 under Travel

8 den pantyhose outdoors On my road trip in United States one of the destinations to see was Joshua Tree National Park. The heat was just unbearable, so we went there in the evening and to our surprise no other tourists were around.

This was a perfect opportunity to snap some sexy photos in the middle of the desert landscape. Since I was already wearing my 8 den pantyhose, I only had to put on some heels and pose.

Do you want to see more pantyhose photos from my trip? Make sure you are signed up for the newsletter.

Newsletter is coming out at 6 p.m. Pacific Time on August 23rd, 2014.

My visit to Shine Fitness in Las Vegas

July 29, 2014 under Travel

Shine Fitness in Las VegasAfter I’ve seen the show Zumanity from Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas in February 2013, I just couldn’t get it out of my head since. One of my favourite artists is Dima Shine. When I learned that he has an alternative gym, I really wanted to see it some day.

Maybe it’s strange for some, but going to a fitness class was the top of my list for Las Vegas. Yes, shows are nice to watch, but at some point I began to wonder what it’s like to be doing those tricks on stage and how these artists train backstage. Some of the performers actually train or teach at Shine Fitness.

Actually, when I was packing for my trip to Las Vegas, I packed my yoga pants just for that. I wanted to be dressed appropriately for my visit, so I took a pair of my best pants by our local Vancouver brand called Public Myth.

Shine Fitness in Las Vegas - Kelly in anti-gravity yoga classFinally, my dream came true! So I registered online and came for a fun anti-gravity yoga class with Kelly. Here’s a photo of her doing one of the yoga positions that she teaches for more advanced classes.

Even though I was nervous and clumsy since it was my first time, she was very patient and reassuring. Now that I calmed down after all the new sensations, especially the upside down ones, I want to do it again.

I’ll be in Las Vegas again on August 6th, so if I am not pressed for time, I really hope to pay another visit. Maybe even I’ll get to see Dima himself, as they say that he comes in sometimes.

I want to express a huge thank you to Dima Shine and his business partner for opening Shine Fitness and to all the friendly staff who made my first visit so comfortable and welcoming.
