Dead Sea and pantyhose - I am posing in the water.

In this photo I am wearing a pair of ultra sheer pantyhose under my swimsuit.

I had a really good time on my trip and got to visit the Dead Sea again. It wasn’t my first time there, but it is the first time I got to do a photoshoot there wearing pantyhose. I even managed to get into the water and splash my legs.

Cuban Hotel and Airport Staff in Pantyhose

On my trip to Cuba I couldn’t help but notice how many maids and waitresses were wearing pantyhose! Of course, not every single one. Somehow in the hotel where I was staying pantyhose became optional and so did customer service in many instances (let’s just say we had a few issues at front desk).

I took a photo of these two lovely people on the morning of my departure. The maid was holding such beautiful flower arrangement that I just couldn’t resist and asked her for a photo.

As some of you already know, I went on this trip with my parents. The waitress that served us each dinner was really sweet. We gave her some used clothing and my suitcase that I no longer needed (with all the poverty in that country they really appreciate any kind of used items), and in exchange she brought us some Cuban souvenirs. We really didn’t expect anything in return. She also brought photos of her family to show us.

I also saw the guards at the airport in pantyhose. They even had patterned pantyhose on! That was really nice to look at. I must admit, I was afraid to take photos there though. Who knows what their rules are, I don’t want to find out the hard way.

Do you notice though how short the skirts are for the guards? I saw them even shorter! There was one guard at the airport in black pantyhose who had such a sexy walk, I wish I could film her, but I didn’t want to get in trouble because there was another guard right next to me.

And lastly, the tour guide was wearing pantyhose too! Here is a picture of my own leg sticking out in pantyhose and our guide standing in the background. She had a run in hers though, so I wonder whether she should consider carrying an extra pair around. It was really hot that day, but I don’t want to feel cold from the air conditioning, so I wear some kind of hosiery. I mean, I can always take it off if I get too hot.

Hosiery in Japan’s Harajuku District

Can you imagine a whole nation to be infatuated with mystical charm of tights and stockings? Let me assure you the one like that exists. And if you ever had a chance to travel to the Japanese capital, you’d get striking evidences first hand!

A Place Where Hosiery is Inborn

You probably would never find such a chic-filled and style-savvy place on the entire planet as Harajuku district. This Japanese centre of street fashion is located between two Tokyo subway stations.  Its style went through a lengthy time line of transforming traditional oriental attire into a modern look.

Historically, kimono costume would be worn with Japanese socks, so one could conclude that covering their legs with pantyhose is inherent in Japanese girls and women. By the same token, tights and stockings were never dealt with as an insignificant accessory in Tokyo culture, but rather the substantial part of dressing, and the showy one too!

Cosy Sporty Mix, Harajuku District in Japan

Lavish of various teenage fashion styles, streets of Harajuku are glowing with vivid colours, exquisite adornments and thoughtful combinations of young girls’ ensembles, representing innocent Lolita, moody Gothic, multi-layered and glorious decora, cosy sports mix, and extravagant cyberpunk just to name a few. As we have highlighted before, garments consisting of skirts and dresses are generally more preferable than those with pants, although shorts are widely accepted by the younger generation.

Depending on the chosen style, hosiery is matched accordingly to the outfit. Whether it will be above the knee length socks with red hearts to compliment playful girlie look or skin-tone pantyhose with spider-on-the-web prints to highlight Gothic disposition of the wearer, Japanese girls give their leg wear as much attention as to the rest components of outfit.

Due to numerous fashion shops and malls at the Harajuku district, there is no lack of textured, patterned, coloured, and of various thickness tights. Every type you could only wish for is there.

Lolita Style Outfits

What clothing element could more gracefully polish the tender Lolita appearance if not a pair of matching pantyhose?! Burgundy checkered tights decorate one Lolita’s hussar-style uniform outfit and kissing angels print on white tights highlight the holiday spirit in another Lolita’s attire.  These are just examples of two different forms of Lolita style that is featured by abundance of frills, lace, bows, ribbons, etc.

Short Skirts are Balanced With Oversized Tops

As you can see in the accompanying photos, the determining factor of Japanese street fashion is experimenting with and mixing the styles for the sake of fun solely. No matter how short are the skirt hemlines, Harajuku fashion can never be called lewd and meaningless. Yes, girls show a lot of leg, but it is combined with flowing silhouettes of loosely tailored clothing that is quite often waist-concealing and voluminous on top.  Even with such omnipresent hosiery to boot, the style overall doesn’t come off as provocative. Tokyo teenage fashion is always fresh and fun, akin to its trend setters and trend bearers.

Cosplay Fun Outfits

The similar rule is also applied to another prominent counterpart to Harajuku regular style shows, called cosplay (what literally means don the costume and play). Major Motoko Kusanagi’s disguise from Ghost in the Shell animated movie is one of the examples (the film which handles nudity in the most chaste way possible). Such cosplay enthusiasts usually dress themselves as fictional or iconic characters from renown band, game, feature film, manga or any other mainstream release, creating for this purpose actual piece-of-art costumes worthy of being exhibited on high fashion catwalks. And the tendency to plentifully use hosiery in cosplay outfits prevails here too.

Women Oriented Hotel in Calgary Offers Pantyhose to Visitors

Hyatt women oriented hotel in Calgary decided to offer women-friendly service with rooms equipped with curling irons, hairspray, deodorant, and even pantyhose!  For a travelling woman these are essential items that she just can’t do without.

Hyatt Women Oriented Hotel in Calgary Offers Pantyhose to Visitors

I really hope that when I visit Calgary, I’ll stay at that pantyhose hotel.  Looks like I may need to go there soon anyway, after they recover from the flood.  It is a very developed city and I only managed to see it for about an hour before when I drove through it.  Many people come there for business.

Isn’t this a progress that a hotel finally decides to recognize pantyhose as a basic need for a business woman?  It’s just as important as groomed hair and clean clothes.

A big hosiery fan like me for sure won’t forget to pack pantyhose, but I still would be excited to dig through some pantyhose provided in my hotel room.  Do you have any thoughts on this new marketing technique for hotels?  With the growing number of female entrepreneurs, this could be a very smart strategy.

What am I going to do with all these pretty things in my drawer?

It seems to me that I inherit pantyhose almost at the same rate as I purchase it.  On my quest for friendship I somehow only click with ambitious women, but they often decide to leave Vancouver for better career options.

Whatever things they can’t take, including their stash of hosiery, ends up being given to me.  I already feel like I have more than enough to keep up my hosiery supply for the next 2 years.

Things like bathroom scales and other gadgets in good condition can be easily sold at easy auction websites like DealDash, so I don’t mind to do it for them and just send them the money afterwards.

If it’s clothing that doesn’t fit me, it’s not a problem – I give it away to a friend who runs a second hand store.  As they say, one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.

But I can’t possibly think of just giving hosiery away.  Even though I already have too much, I can never refuse to have some more.  But let’s look at the bright side – it serves as a reminder about my friends aboard.  Through half way of me putting on that gifted hose, I recall that it’s been a while since I e-mailed the former owner.

Interview with CJ from Tights Fashion UK

Fantasy Stockings is pleased to present this interview with CJ from TightsFashion, a UK-based website that provides comparison of hosiery brands and presents a lot of useful information and  beautiful photos.

How did you decide to start your site?  Many people like the product, but only a few decide to go as far as you with the idea.

It might surprise visitors to TightsFashion on to know that there was a time when I had no interest in tights and knew nothing about them.   An engineer by training and careful with money by nature I was alarmed by how often my wife threw out tights and bought new pairs.  To cut a long story short I did some testing together with my wife to find a brand and style of hosiery that would offer the optimum value for money… the most durability for least cost while at the same time looking good.

TightsFashion was more of an accident than a plan.  I was experimenting with a few things relating to search engine rankings for another project and decided to set up a site in another area entirely to test the ideas.   I had some data on tights/pantyhose to hand from my earlier research with my wife so decided to use that as the content to save time and effort.

Then I was approached by a hosiery retailer wanting me to become an affiliate and carry advertising… the rest as they say is history.

Do you have any totally wild and outrageous ideas for hosiery photoshoots that you would like to create?

I have one idea, but perhaps not one to share with your readers.  I would love to shoot a transsexual model, but in such a way that it was not apparent what she was; that is pass her off as just another young woman.

Why?  You might ask.   Well there was a rumour some years ago that a major hosiery retailer was using a model of this type on their packaging, the suggestion being that people who are genetically male don’t get cellulite.   I have no idea if that is true, but if they could get away with it then why couldn’t I.

You probably meet men who actually enjoy wearing hosiery.  Do you feel that there is a good market for men’s hosiery?

Hosiery for men is a tricky topic.   I think men make up a significant part of the hosiery buying and hosiery wearing population, particularly on-line.  The problem is that many/most of those men are not buying for reasons of fashion.

Some men are buying to keep warm or for medical reasons, a lot of specialist make hosiery has more in common with thermal underwear than fashion hosiery and on the whole I find it uninteresting.

My view is that for most men buying hosiery there is a fetish aspect and the fact that tights/pantyhose are made for women is part of the appeal.  My own view is that "female" hosiery is generally nicer to wear, and usually far cheaper to buy.

I can’t help but notice your photography skills, did you learn yourself or did you enroll in some formal training?

Aside from a few hours of very basic tuition I am entirely self-taught as far as photography is concerned.  I would like to get a lot more time in the studio with models to try more things and to learn more. Some of my shoots are purely for learning and never get published.

I am always interested in how producers choose their models.  What is important to you and based on what criteria do you choose them?

Generally I use girls who are new to or hoping to get into modelling.  Partly this is to give new talent a chance, plus it lets me take complete control and work at my own pace.

I also try to choose models who live close by and perhaps most importantly like hosiery… the one shot I did that really disappointed me was with a model with a great body but no love of hosiery.

I avoid tattoos because they distract from the tights.   I don’t demand perfect skin as the whole point of the hosiery is to cover the imperfections.

Do you have any other interests or hobbies that you enjoy in your spare time?

I am not quite sure what "spare time" is.  I have rather a lot of hobbies and interests and not enough time to do them all.  I really enjoy hiking/walking and I often combine this with a love of travel.   I am very interested in wine and I run a wine tasting club that meets once a month… my holidays tend to be to places with vineyards too.

I enjoy working on my garden and I have a pond with koi carp.  Photography of course, outdoor rather than in the studio.

I am a member of a clay pigeon shooting club … (for those not familiar with the sport the "pigeons" are clay discs fired from a catapult launcher, they replaced live pigeons many decades ago), and a badminton club.

Why do you think that pantyhose and stockings sales declined in the past 2 decades?

I don’t have any firm data on this, and of course I can really only look at the UK, but my feeling is that compared to 1992 the market is smaller but growing fast.   The growth in the number of on line retailers, and the success of more established sites like UKTights is testament to this.

You say that “what is right for a girlfriend and what is right for a wife are different”.  Can you explain to us how so?  In my ideal world there wouldn’t be a difference, but I realize that it may not be the case for others.

This is just an observation based on many years of experience.   A girlfriend will love it that you bought her something sexy and expensive, a wife will probably complain at the waste of money and the fact it is not the style she usually wears.  Of course it varies from woman to woman but I expect most married men will know what I mean.

You mention that in your tights review you talk about sizing.  I usually take size Medium, but I find that it really varies from brand to brand.  Why do you think they can’t just make these sizes standard worldwide to keep it simple for the consumer?

This is an easy one.   Look at the average woman in the USA.  Now look at the average Japanese woman.  Then consider the varying heights and shapes across Germany, Italy, France, Spain, UK… there is simply no way that you can make any small/medium/large system work across the whole range.   I do find it frustrating that the European size schemes all use similar notation but the sizes are different.

e.g. Kunert size IV is 44-46 in Germany, 46-48 in Italy and France and 50-52 in Russia, and what do those numbers mean anyway?

I notice that you really praise seamless pantyhose in your reviews.  Do you think that seamless would be the hosiery of the future?  I recently tried on an evening dress and realized that seams from my pantyhose were showing through the gentle fabric.

I love seamless pantyhose but they are not the future.   I do think though that every premium brand should have a seamless style precisely for the reason that you mention, even the best flat seams can show through light and tight fashion.  That and seamless look and feel so sexy.

Why not the future?   Well they are expensive to make for one so will never displace hosiery made in two halves and seamed together.   The seamless knitting process makes it hard to knit a deep body section so they tend to be hipster styled unless you are very slim in the hips and bottom, they you can get them waist high.

In your tips for gift ideas, you mention that it’s best not to go with hosiery less than 10 den.  Does this mean that you personally are not a fan of ultra-sheer hosiery?

On the contrary I am a huge fan of ultra-sheer hosiery, and I suspect many men buying hosiery as a gift might love the idea the ultra-sheer material on their loved one.

My advice is aimed at men who need advice and I am trying to avoid the situation of a guy buying sheer hosiery for his lady who is not a regular wearer of sheer hosiery and ruining it either taking it from the packet or putting it on, particularly if the ultra-sheer hosiery is not top quality.  I have had 10 denier 40% lycra pantyhose from the supermarket literally fall to bits as I stretched it prior to wearing.  Some of the best hosiery is 5-9 denier, but this is not for the beginner in my experience.

It is quite rare to see pantyhose in a fashion magazine unless it’s some kind of a winter jacket commercial that obviously won’t be styled with summer sandals.  Do you have any opinion on why this bare leg look is promoted in the fashion industry?

This is an interesting question.   It shows in some ways how North America lags behind Europe in terms of fashion.  Two years ago the fashion press would still be saying "steer clear of sheer" but now sheer hosiery is popular even among, or maybe particularly among, younger women.

Some women of a certain age who never wore hosiery still go for the bare leg look but now they are the ones out of step with fashion.  It will be interesting to see if the look transfers over the Atlantic in the coming year.

TightsFashion is unique on the web, although there have been attempts to copy both the content and the format.   First and foremost it is a site for lovers of hosiery as a fashion item, designed to provide information on as many styles and brands as possible and to provide price comparison between the leading on line retailers.  The information on the site is provided for all to use free of charge, to promote the wearing of hosiery for the beautifying of legs everywhere.

My Vacation in Las Vegas

This summer I did something that is for sure going to be a memory of a lifetime – a coast to coast road trip in United States.  You can read about all different places I’ve been to in my diary section, but for now I’d like to talk about my great visit to Las Vegas.

Vegas, the Sin City, is a very unique place.  Surrounded by the desert, this “island” has an unbelievable density of casinos, clubs, bars, shows, theatres, buffets, and whatever else crosses your mind that is entertainment-related.  It was my first time there and I wanted it to be memorable, but in a positive way.

Maybe the concept of “me in Vegas” is a little bit of an oxymoron.  I don’t drink, smoke, use any kind of substances, and I don’t gamble.  Obviously I checked out all the casinos, but that was more to look at the beauty of the establishment.

Casino waitresses were wearing mostly black semi-opaque pantyhose, but they were not exactly model types as I imagined them to be.  However the go-go dancers on the bar were very beautiful, but instead of regular pantyhose they were wearing either nude or black fishnets.  There was so many of them there!

Probably my only guilty addiction is my love for tea!  But that’s something that made me puff up almost every single time I’d enter a hotel room in United States – coffee is there, tea is not.  I felt like throwing a real hissy fit over this, but I quickly realized where I am and calmed down.  In Canada tea is a very popular beverage because we still have a lot of British traditions there.

I felt it every single day on my trip – United States is not a British place.  So why would they honour traditions of the “Old Country”, as our Canadian folks refer to England and France?  That includes all the etiquette which is pretty much a very British thing… such as tea and perhaps wearing hosiery.  I think this might be an explanation to why Kate Middleton is in pantyhose and Lady Obama isn’t.

Vegas is a controversial place where you may see things that you normally don’t.  There is a lot of fast food and even the Heart Attack Grill with a motto of “if you are over 350 lbs, you eat free”.  I climbed on the scale there and realized that I need to triple my weight in order to get a free lunch.

Another controversial topic is what happens after Friday night.  As we were heading out of Vegas on Saturday morning, at 8:58 a.m. there was a long line up of people outside of the pawn shop waiting for the doors to open.  They were not there to shop, but to swap some item for a quick coin.

They’ve got the best Hooters hotel there though with hostesses everywhere!  There was even a limbo game going on and they were having a lot of fun.  I also ate at the Hooters restaurant for the experience.  It broke some of my stereotypes about Hooters, let’s just say.  I thought that they only hired women with a full bust, but there was not much of it there.  Also, I noticed that they even had a pregnant waitress there with her shirt saying “baby on board”.  It made me feel that the girls who worked there were actually real, not some artificially-enhanced vixens.

At some point I saw a tourist dressed like Snow White with his friends who were wearing green shirts and were supposed to be the dwarves.  Right away I asked him to pose together for a picture and to my surprise he agreed and wanted a photo for himself too.  As soon as I pulled up my skirt to show the stockings, he was totally game and pulled it up even higher.  I am sure that he didn’t expect a woman in a proper knee length skirt like mine to have stockings and garter belt under!

My biggest highlight was my visit to Cirque du Soleil.  I really wanted to see the show Zumanity, but they went on vacation, so I saw a martial arts themed show called Ka.  That was so worth it!  Let’s just say, just like most normal people, I have a limited budget, but I would rather spend it all on exhilarating experiences like this one, rather than on clothes or high end dining. These performers devote their whole life to the circus and I have the deepest respect for that.

I really liked Vegas in my own way and I keep on thinking of when I’ll go back there for longer, so I can visit all those shows that kept on teasing me with the flashing billboards.

Trying on Wolford Satin Touch 20 – Wearing Pantyhose With Panty in the Desert

I had a pair of Wolford Satin Touch 20 that was sent to me by my fan David from Canada.  I didn’t want to just go ahead and wear it to one of my daily errands, I wanted to make a real statement by putting it on.

On my road trip in United States, after seeing thousands of women with bare legs and flip flops, I thought it would be a real statement to put on pantyhose in the middle of a desert.

There was a small problem – this is a very conservative State!  For example, in Walmart book section they had absolutely nothing on business, but there was a whole shelf on religion.  Obviously, I didn’t want anybody to see me walking around in just panties and pantyhose.

I also didn’t want to damage this pantyhose, but the desert ground is quite rough.  For this purpose I wore my flats and just alternating standing on one leg while putting pantyhose in the air on another.

This pantyhose is quite shiny, almost like a sheer version of Neon 40.  They soft, resistant, and stretchy – just the way a good quality pair of pantyhose should be.

On another note, I’ve been told at Toronto Wolford boutique that even the princess Kate Middleton wears this exact style from Wolford.  Thank you, David, for sending that, it makes me feel like a princess too!

Indifferent service at San Francisco Wolford Boutique

Apathy – I feel that this is the best word to describe the attitudes of staff at Wolford in San Francisco.

I didn’t have much time in that city, but it was very important for me to see this Wolford boutique, partially because I am a blogger, but partially because this is my most exciting destination for shopping.

I walked in with my guy and at first I thought that they had another customer there already.  But when I saw that person moving mannequins, I realized that she is actually one of the staff.

Well, my confusion came from her outfit – she was wearing jeans and some kind of casual flat white shoes.  After she finished, she hopped behind the counter, thus hiding her bottom half and looking more like an employee.

The young lady who greeted me was wearing black textured fishnet pantyhose and a knee length skirt.  She was polite, but somehow I didn’t feel any enthusiasm.  Even though she answered my questions well, I could sense her lack of passion about the product.  The product knowledge was there, yet somehow this experience didn’t feel personal at all.  It felt as if this interaction was robotic and I couldn’t figure out how come it begun to bother me so much.

What could it be?  I didn’t know if my expectations are too high after being welcomed so nicely in their Toronto location by a manager who sincerely loved the product even before she got hired.  Could it be that these women are just there to work their shift, without actually having any interest in this kind of stuff outside of their work hours?

I don’t want to paint too bad of a picture here, the service wasn’t bad at all, just indifferent.  I dream about visiting all the Wolford boutiques around the world, but somehow I am not excited about returning to this one.

Photoshoot with WamInStyle in Russia

I invite you to check out the story I wrote for WamInStyle.  In May I was in Eastern Europe:  Russia, Poland, Ukraine.  I managed to find time to do a photoshoot!  This group likes to jump into the water fully clothed. Marta, the 2nd model, got to try on my Wolford Neon 40 pantyhose that were sent to me earlier by my fan David from Canada.  At first she was surprised that it costs so much, but after she tried it, she said that she could feel the quality.http://www.waminstyle.com/read_story/23/en/
