An Anonymous Quote on Pantyhose

One of my followers on social media passed this on. How lovely! Thanks, Vince! Since I prefer regular pantyhose, I’ll try to enjoy flowers as gifts rather than chocolate.

“If it weren’t for chocolate, there would be no need for control-top pantyhose. An entire garment industry would be devastated.”

Cuban Hotel and Airport Staff in Pantyhose

May 4, 2014 under Travel

On my trip to Cuba I couldn’t help but notice how many maids and waitresses were wearing pantyhose! Of course, not every single one. Somehow in the hotel where I was staying pantyhose became optional and so did customer service in many instances (let’s just say we had a few issues at front desk).

I took a photo of these two lovely people on the morning of my departure. The maid was holding such beautiful flower arrangement that I just couldn’t resist and asked her for a photo.

As some of you already know, I went on this trip with my parents. The waitress that served us each dinner was really sweet. We gave her some used clothing and my suitcase that I no longer needed (with all the poverty in that country they really appreciate any kind of used items), and in exchange she brought us some Cuban souvenirs. We really didn’t expect anything in return. She also brought photos of her family to show us.

I also saw the guards at the airport in pantyhose. They even had patterned pantyhose on! That was really nice to look at. I must admit, I was afraid to take photos there though. Who knows what their rules are, I don’t want to find out the hard way.

Do you notice though how short the skirts are for the guards? I saw them even shorter! There was one guard at the airport in black pantyhose who had such a sexy walk, I wish I could film her, but I didn’t want to get in trouble because there was another guard right next to me.

And lastly, the tour guide was wearing pantyhose too! Here is a picture of my own leg sticking out in pantyhose and our guide standing in the background. She had a run in hers though, so I wonder whether she should consider carrying an extra pair around. It was really hot that day, but I don’t want to feel cold from the air conditioning, so I wear some kind of hosiery. I mean, I can always take it off if I get too hot.

pantyhose art arrangement - hand crafted

womens pantyhose reused

Since the 60’s, women cannot imagine their life without pantyhose because of all the benefits that this invention presents.  In general, hosiery used to be darned to a point that one would do anything possible to preserve it and prolong its life.  It would never get thrown away!

These days, as the standard of living improved and quite often old ripped pantyhose are thrown away.  But what a waste!  For some appearance of a run is just the beginning.  There is a way to give used pantyhose another chance life and it is something that doesn’t even cross people’s mind.

The uses are so diverse!  There are many options what to do with ripped pantyhose – dusting cloth, dish cloth, storage casing for onions and garlic and for Christmas tree decorations.  But the most interesting idea is to make crafts!  Creativity is unlimited when it comes to using this gentle, light, and romantic fabric to decorate your home.

Her flower compositions are amazing!  Literally, from an ugly duckling Inna creates a beautiful swan.  Sheer fabric, tape, and glue transform in the hands of the craftswoman and acquire a new life in a form of pretty flowers.  This gives used pantyhose a second chance to life and help to reduce landfill waste.

In Ukraine this method is new and only a few people work with it. Inna Kostenko hopes to develop her skills to a higher level and eventually start to teach classes on pantyhose art.
