Lithuania: employee gets fired for tying black pantyhose on a flag

CORRECTION: Thank you to readers of this blog who pointed out a mistake that before the country was wrongfully stated as Latvia and the date of the mourning day was wrongfully written as well.  Correct country – Lithuania.  Correct date – June 14th.  It is something that is remembered in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

pantyhose over latvian flagA flag is a symbol of a country and if mistreated, it maybe taken as an offence.  Usually it happens because people don’t know any better.

Let’s say that there are cases of ships entering a foreign port with the flag upside down.  Or an embarrassing case of outsourcing gone wrong, such as a batch of Israeli flags that were made in China arrived with the Star of David shifted by a 30 degree rotation, which for whatever reason was not rejected and filled the air on the 2008 Independence Day in Tel-Aviv.

Alright, we can perhaps assign such cases to a staff member who didn’t check the drawing or a young sailor who has has no idea which colour of the French striped flag should face the top.  We all make such mistakes.

But what would you say about a man who purposely ties a pair of black pantyhose over the Lithuanian flag instead of a black ribbon?  It is a common custom in the Baltic countries to tie a ribbon on the flag on the days of mourning.

So in this case on June 14, 2013 – Anniversary of Deportation (mourning in memory of victims of communist genocide), a worker of a store called Maxima tied a pair of black pantyhose over their flag.

Let’s just say that not only the worker got fired for such a deed, for which no explanation was released, the owners of the store are hoping to pursue this matter in court as a criminal offence.

Even though I believe that any flag should be treated with respect, I should point out that such a deed made it to a newspaper, thus informing the whole world about this Lithuanian day of mourning.  I would probably have no idea about such tragedy suffered in the Baltic countries in 1941 if I wouldn’t stumble upon that note online.

For sure the worker didn’t raise the flag properly, but he (or she) for sure raised some awareness as a result.

Ka Show Tragedy at Cirque du Soleil – my condolences

Sarah Guyard-Guillort

Cirque du Soleil gymnast dies in tragic accident during ‘Ka’ show

I would like to say that I am deeply saddened by the death of the young performer from Cirque du Soleil, Sarah Guyard-Guillort in this Ka show tragedy.  She fell to her death on June 30th, 2013, during the wall climbing scene at the end of the show.  Some say that she could have slipped out of her safety harness.

As many of you may know by now, I am an avid fan of Cirque du Soleil.  No matter how much it costs, I would cut all other outings just so that I could go to see their shows.  I saw Ka last summer in Las Vegas.  To me this is more than just a performance.

Sarah died and we mourn this loss, no doubt that this Ka show tragedy will not be forgotten y the Cirque community.  Please consider though that every day artists like Sarah put their life at risk for what they love.  But they do it willingly for the art, it’s not just a job to them, it’s a way of life.

I think about how much they devote to the show, maybe only being able to imagine just part of the preparation, and I realize that such art is not just another show.  It’s something that hundreds of people devote their lives to create.  I support them in what they do and I greatly admire them for that.  Sometimes they literally pay with their life.

Remembering September 11 Tragedy

Even though this is obviously not related to the theme of my blog, most of our visitors are from United States.  I will never forget that day.  It affected people all over the world.

It happened that I was actually in NYC one week before this tragedy and I went to see those Twin Towers.  I went up to the top and watched the city from above.  A week later those towers were gone.  I still had those paper tickets in my purse.

One of my distant relatives who lived in NYC before has lost her mother in this tragedy.  I think that for residents of United States we all know someone who lost a dear one in 9/11.

At the time of the tragedy I was in Toronto, still in high school.  Nobody could concentrate on studying or teaching.  We were all shocked.  People were getting out of downtown as fast as possible just in case our tall buildings were on the schedule next.

I’d like to say to our American readers that my heart is with you.

Tribute to pantyhose model Adrianne: created by Aton Digital Arts

As you may know from my previous article, recently one of the models cherished by the hosiery community tragically died.  Many people are still learning about this through forums or blogs like this one.

One of Adrianne’s fans, Aton, created this lovely tribute to her and I thought to share it with you.  I was surprised how much this drawing actually looks like Adrianne.  He painted it completely in photoshop with the use of several reference photos.

“There was something unique about her smile, sophisticated poses and the way she enhanced her shapely legs in hose.”, says Aton.  “Hopefully, her soul has found peace.”

passing of a pantyhose legend – model Adrianne

One of our pantyhose legends, Adrianne, has passed away at the age of 36.

I regret to say that in February of 2012 our online pantyhose community has lost a legend, model Adrianne.

“I am the open bird cage, I am the free bird; living in the moment and loving life.” – that was what she wrote about herself on her Facebook page.  Sadly, this intelligent young woman was only 36 when she departed for the better world.

Her modeling career started in late 1990’s, just after first internet browsers appeared.  She was one of the first pantyhose teaser models on the web and she left a big impression on many.

There were a lot of people who liked her, not only for her beauty and her genuine love for pantyhose, but for her approachable sunny personality.

“As I recall she was a very sweet and outgoing person“, says Sirchristo on the pantyhose forum.  Erik, another member of our community, highlights her easy-going character: “Every time I conversed with her she was really nice and friendly.”

Adrianne was originally from Massachusetts, but she resided in Indiana.  She loved animals, especially horses, and horseback riding was her favourite sport.  Adrianne’s intellect shines through her interest in Reiki healing and in spiritual books mentioned on her Facebook page.

“It’s a beautiful day for Pantyhose!”  – that was a wonderful tag line on Adrianne’s Facebook page to greet the world.  May our community remember her for her modeling contributions and her open and cheerful personality.  She lives on in the memories of many – smart, beautiful, and friendly.

Some of Adrianne’s Favourite Quotations:

“Some people feel the rain, others just get wet.”  Bob Dylan

“Courage is the power to let go of the familiar.”  Raymond Lindquist

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”  Anonymous

“The truth shall set you free.”  John 8:32, The Bible
