Ka Show Tragedy at Cirque du Soleil – my condolences

Sarah Guyard-Guillort

Cirque du Soleil gymnast dies in tragic accident during ‘Ka’ show

I would like to say that I am deeply saddened by the death of the young performer from Cirque du Soleil, Sarah Guyard-Guillort in this Ka show tragedy.  She fell to her death on June 30th, 2013, during the wall climbing scene at the end of the show.  Some say that she could have slipped out of her safety harness.

As many of you may know by now, I am an avid fan of Cirque du Soleil.  No matter how much it costs, I would cut all other outings just so that I could go to see their shows.  I saw Ka last summer in Las Vegas.  To me this is more than just a performance.

Sarah died and we mourn this loss, no doubt that this Ka show tragedy will not be forgotten y the Cirque community.  Please consider though that every day artists like Sarah put their life at risk for what they love.  But they do it willingly for the art, it’s not just a job to them, it’s a way of life.

I think about how much they devote to the show, maybe only being able to imagine just part of the preparation, and I realize that such art is not just another show.  It’s something that hundreds of people devote their lives to create.  I support them in what they do and I greatly admire them for that.  Sometimes they literally pay with their life.

Zumanity Show by Cirque Du Soleil in Las Vegas Highlights – Dima Shine, Anna O’Keefe, and Julia Kolosova

Vegas Anna O'Keefe

This February I got a chance to visit Las Vegas and see some of amazing shows.  My favourite, as you may guess, was Zumanity – the first Cirque Du Soleil adult-oriented show, full of lingerie and flirting.

My favourite was an amazing performance by Dima Shine (or Dima Bulkin) with his hand-balancing act.  He is now my hero!  For the act itself he was only wearing artistically cut briefs, showing off his toned body.  However, he greeted the audience at the beginning of the show in the lobby, sitting in riser in a pantyhose-like bodysuit worn underneath his underwear.

Anna O’Keefe had the slimmest body out of all the girls and she had a very beautiful act with a short boy who is a big celebrity because of his flying in the air act that he does hanging by the silks.  The photo that you see was taken in the lobby where she was greeting the guests in a beautiful outfit while wearing opaque nude pantyhose to cover her dance leggings worn underneath.

The main attraction seemed to be the school girl act with the hoops, performed by Julia Kolosova, while wearing a school outfit and footless white stockings.  She is the one on the cover of Zumanity, right in the center of the poster.  Her act was totally unbelievable, considering that she was spinning at least 10 of those hoops while posing in the air.  She deserves a medal!

Zumanity probably represented every main fetish and sexual orientation out there.  Starting with the hostess – a very skillful crossdresser who had a very sharp sense of humour.

You might wonder how I know all the names of the performers.  Well, right after the show I ran to grab the book from the gift store to look up all the names of my superstars.  I just couldn’t resist writing about them.  They deserve to be praised for their hard work.  It’s a fun evening for us, but they devote their lives to create it.
