Ripped pantyhose in Obsessed with the Dress Show

I started watching a show “Obsessed with the Dress” and spotted a pantyhose moment. Well, started and finished, it’s not interesting for me at all. Very shallow.

ripped-pantyhose-obsessed-with-the-dress-show

I found it interesting that they showed one of the sales girls wearing ripped pantyhose in the pageant dress store. She got criticized by the other sales woman and a sales gay guy for wearing it ripped because they say that if it rips, it should be thrown away.

I was in a sense surprised to hear that they don’t like it because it’s ripped, not because it’s simply there. The way the comment sounded made it look like as if wearing undamaged pantyhose is a normal thing to do. That’s refreshingly rare in the modern fashion industry.

Hosiery at Vancouver Taboo Show 2015

Just like last year, I got to attend the Vancouver Taboo Show, a yearly event for adults only. That convention centre used to be walking distance from where I lived, but now it’s a long way away since I moved to Calgary.  I decided to go for a more economical option and take the coach bus instead of flying, but later questioned that decision after spending 17 hours one way on that bus.

It was really nice to see a lot of my friends again and in general to experience the vibe of open-minded and positive people. I would ask people to take a photo and they would never say no, some would even pull up the skirt to show me better what kind of stockings they were wearing. Myself I wore a black dress with a frilly bottom with crinoline skirts underneath and fishnet stay up stockings. Maybe next year I’lll go for a wilder outfit.

Taboo show happens almost in every Canadian major city and every time there are plenty interesting things to see. This year there was a pole dancing studio, a fire fighters club, body paint workshop, BDSM workshop from fetish Noir club, tattoos, lingerie, accessories, and gifts.

I snapped a few stocking and pantyhose pictures for you to enjoy. Even though the show was not about just stockings, at least my eyes seem to be drawn to mostly that.

Mean criticism or blunt truth?

“they ask me why I treat Victoria like this. But how else can I treat her? She doesn’t wear pantyhose, doesn’t put on nail polish, doesn’t wear lipstick. She only puts on some powder in the morning and goes straight to work.”

appearance, women, lookThis is a translated fragment from a Russian talk show doing a brand comparison on pantyhose. The host of the show, Sergei Stillavin, seemed to be joking around and criticized another member, Victoria, for not being like the rest of the women.

I haven’t uploaded this part of the show yet, only managed to get part 1 up on the blog. This show chooses a product or service to review and compare, anything from renovation materials to candy brands.

Maybe because the host was so blunt while on air this show no longer exists as there were some complaints.

After I read it, I thought it was a mean thing to say out loud, but right away thought that I am not too far away from how he describes Victoria. Yes, I was wearing pantyhose, but I had no nail polish and no lipstick. Only some powder, just like her.

I got a sense of discomfort deep inside, I don’t even know why. So after I took a nice bubble bath I put on some pink nail polish on my toes. Am I now closer to being like the rest of the women according to Sergei’s comment?

For past few weeks I’ve been quite stressed out. I jump out of bed and think of all the work I need to do. Sometimes I forget about nail polish. Sometimes I even forget that I have nails to begin with. It never gets to a point that I’ll show up in jeans and runners somewhere in the city, but for styling like hair and make up I may not have any time. While reading  Sergei’s comments I got a bit of wake up call.

In a strange way I agree that small touches like polished shoes, neat hair, make up, and properly sized and pressed clothing can make a big difference.  I can totally see some feminists say that it doesn’t count, but we do get judged and therefore treated based on our appearance.

X Burlesque Show in Las Vegas

Jessica from Fantasy Stockings in Las Vegas

One of the shows that I really wanted to see in Las Vegas was X-Burlesque. I was really excited about it, so I put on some sexy stockings with a garter belt and a sparkly dress. As I was walking around, people thought I was part of the entertainment crew because of all the glitter.

It was a really nice production and all the dancers had amazing endurance to last through that entire show. There was a lovely scene with sheer stay up stockings when dancers were taking them off each other. Otherwise, they only had fishnet stockings throughout the show.

This show is a topless show, so it was made clear on the ticket and you actually had to initial it that you understand what you are about to see. I would appreciate if there would be more build up or more tease factor leading to the topless part. Somehow in my opinion they took off the tops too soon.

From a professional point of view I think that the dancers could move more uniformly, as they were not synchronized well at some points. If it would be up to me, I’d probably make a requirement for dancers not to have any tattoos. Let’s say, when I am thinking about sexuality, I really don’t want to get distracted by a childish “hello kitty” tattoo that one of the girls had.

Probably the part that I enjoyed the most was the pole dance and the scenes with the bathtub. I liked it overall, I think it’s a fun show to see for couples.

J’adore à?a.

Vendeuse : Oui. Parce que le denier est plus élevé.

Présentatrice (off) : Modèle numéro 2. Milieu de gamme. A 12,95$. 40 deniers.

Moi, à?a me plaà?t assez.

Présentatrice (off) : Modèle 3. Haut de gamme. 34$. 10 deniers. 24% de Lycra.

(Musique.

! Le tour est joué !

*Dear friends, please keep in mind that the funding for this blog comes from the shop section. Please have a look at it.*

Host : (To Josée, the make-up artist) Thank you, Josée. (To the viewers) Oh no! A run, again! Women who, like me, wear stockings on a regular basis, can buy 2 or 3 pairs each week. It’s a lot of money. It can cost up to CA$400 per year. Can we save enough money by buying stockings of a better quality? It’s what we will try to know today, by going shopping. And fortunately, I have a spare pair.(Music and cutaway shot. In a hosiery store.)Host: (To the clerk) When I purchase hosiery, which questions should I ask myself, at first?

Clerk: First, is it for a party, or is it pantyhose for everyday use, for work, and second, if you want a support panty or not, and if you will wear them with open-toes shoes or not.

Host: What should I look for to have more resistant pantyhose?

Clerk: The denier must be higher. The lower the denier, the sheerer the hosiery. And another very important factor, it’s the Lycra inside the product. It exists in 100% Nylon, that is, without Lycra, but it may slide down along the leg. It will slide down. With Lycra, it stays better on the leg, and also, it’s more clinging.

(Music and cutaway shot. At the hairdresser).

Host: (To the hairdresser) What are the opportunities for you to wear sheer hosiery?

Hairdresser (Lady 1): The most often in parties. Christmas parties and the likes.

Lady 2: Each time I wear a skirt or a dress, I wear sheer hosiery.

Lady 3: At work, on a regular basis. Or for stepping out.

Lady 4: When I put on a dress. Sometimes for work or to step out.

Host (off): Claudine, Amélia, Katia and Sylvie, work at Saint-Laurent of Longueil’s hairdresser shop. They accepted to model for us for a few days.

Host (back to the hosiery store): We chose a few styles for our 4 testers. First, a quite inexpensive style, I believe.

Clerk: The first one is quite sheer, but is OK for every day’s use. Support panty and reinforced toes.

Host (off): Style number one. Low range. CA$7,50. 15 deniers. 6% Lycra.

(Back to the hairdresser salon.)

Lady 1: I didn’t really like the comfort, the toes. There is no reinforcement. Plus, the first time I put them on, I got a run. The first day.

Lady 2: It’s quite soft. It moves on the skin. The only trouble, is that it’s not durable.

Lady 3: When I have them on, just sitting down or standing up makes creases.

Lady 4: I like it very much. It was comfortable to move. It’s supple. It clung well the leg. It was quite robust. No run.

(Music and cutaway shot. In the street)

Host: (to a man in the street) You, as a man, what do you think of women who wear hosiery? Do you find it sexy?

Man 1: Of course, I find this sexy. I love it!

Man 2: It can be suggestive, it can also be only aesthetic.

(Music and cutaway shot. Back to the hosiery store)

Host: Second style?

Clerk: The second style is a 40 deniers. So, it’s good for someone who wears a skirt, who doesn’t want a too opaque product that covers the leg completely. It’s quite silky.

Host: Is it more resisting?

Clerk: Yes it is, because the denier is higher.

Host (off): Style number 2. Middle range. CA$12,95. 40 deniers. 21% Lycra

(Back to the hairdresser salon.)

Lady 1: Me, the number 2, I loved it. The reinforced toes, I like it quite a lot. I have toes that are aggressive to the stockings. The comfort, too, at the panty. I loved it. I had no run.

Lady 2: It’s a massacre. It’s a torture. It’s difficult to put on. It’s like I had a baby diaper between the legs. And I cannot pull it up to the waist, like I did for the style number 1.

Lady 3: It looked very much like opaque tights.

(Music and cutaway shot. In the street)

Man 3: It can be sexy, indeed.

Man 4: It depends on the person. It makes the legs more shaped, most of the times.

(Back to the hosiery store)

Host: The third style is really a luxury style that we decide to purchase, isn’t it?

Clerk: It’s a product from a designer. It’s 10 deniers, so it’s sheerer. No reinforced toes, so it can be worn with sandals without problems. And for the support, it’s tighter on the thighs and the hips. See? It’s very tight.

Host (off): There’s no risk to suffocate, at least?

Clerk: No, you must take the right size, but be extremely careful, given if you take too large, it will slide down.

Host (off): Style number 3. High range. CA$34. 10 deniers. 24% Lycra.

(Music. Cutaway shot. Back to the hairdresser salon.)

Lady 1: The reinforcement at the toe is lower than the second style. The panty is "huh!" I can’t breathe. It’s a bit too much. It’s not comfortable.

Lady 2: It’s not too tight. It’s a bit itchy on the skin. To me, it’s quite sheer. It’s like I have no hose at all.

Lady 3: On the leg, it’s too large. It creases.

Host (off): It makes creases?

Lady 3: I should pull it up, pull it up. It slides down all the time.

Host: And the panty?

Lady 3. It’s too tight. Really too tight. Not comfortable.

Lady 4: It’s quite comfortable. Sometimes it’s worth paying a high price. But now, it’s not. I would not pay such a price for such a pantyhose.

Host (off): Even if they chose the size that fits them, 2 of our 4 testers felt really uncomfortable in the pantyhose number 3. Now, the final results. The first style gets 3 votes. The second style gets 1 vote. The third style gets zero vote. They prefer comfort to durability.

Lady 1: I was surprised to feel comfortable. I was very surprised.

Host: If you prefer a more resisting pantyhose, don’t forget the check the deniers. The higher deniers, the more durable the pantyhose is. For comfort, look the percentage of Lycra.

Man 5: I like a more natural look. I pity the women who wear hose. I find it boring. I never tried, but it’s what I see.

Host (close to a washing-machine): To maximize the durability of your hosiery, it’s better to wash them by hand, but we don’t always have the time, so we can wash them in the washing-machine, on the program "Wool", but what’s important is to use that kind of fishnet bag to put the hosiery inside. It will save it from running. That’s all!

Ukrainian Show “Pay Attention” – Secrets of Pantyhose

TV host Tatiana Ramus:  “Greetings to all viewers of the TV program “Pay attention”.  What do men notice first, when they secretly look at a woman?  It is unlikely that some will say say that they stare at the face, but for sure at the legs, especially if at that time those legs are in beautiful pantyhose.

Today we are going to advice women how to choose this nylon accessory which allows to change your look throughout the day.  And, we are going to show the men that this wardrobe detail is as important to women as a tie for a man.”

Brunette TV host: “The women in trousers have occupied urban streets but the men still look for legs in pantyhose and stockings. What is more interesting to them, legs or pantyhose? It seems that such clothing magically influence men.”

Opinion Poll on the street

Male Passerby 1: “I think the more transparent are the tights, the more decent the lady looks.”

Brunette TV host: These 100 grams of nylon make your legs look perfect!

Psychologist Oksana Nikitina: “The woman wearing pantyhose has a closed personality, it is like so called chastity belt. The woman wearing stockings has an open personality. Men react not only to pantyhose and stockings but how the woman carries herself”.

Brunette TV host: “A woman uses more than 240 pairs of pantyhose during the year and to save them you should know more about this nylon miracle.” [Even though this is said in the show, it doesn’t seem to be true.]

Director of hosiery factory Maxim Kuzmenko: “Here we have very big range of pantyhose and they all consist of polyamide and elasthane threads. The comfort, price and so on depend on the quantitative composition of these two these yarns.”

Hosiery Selection at a Store

Brunette TV host: “6 km of thread and 3 million of stitches are used to manufacture a pair of tights. There are thick or thin tights the, difference is only in deniers. So what is it and how to find out what deniers are?”

Director of hosiery factory Maxim Kuzmenko: “The thicker thread that is delivered, the thicker the manufactured product.”

Brunette TV host: “The price depends on the denier and whether the product is produced by a foreign or by a Ukrainian (local) factory.”

Sales Assistant Svetlana Pavlenko “Here we have Ukrainian tights produced by Nika – Nikopol Factory”

Brunette TV host: “There is plenty of variety in stores in our capital.”

Brunette TV host: “Wow, pantyhose are one of the fantastic things of 20th century. They make you slimmer and have no disadvantages.”

Colour can cause skin allergies

Dermatologist Yury Opanasenko: “It is advisable not to wear pantyhose during the warm days of the year because they increase moisture content of the skin and this can lead to frequent infections for women, known as yeast. Colorful tights cause allergies and can provoke eczema and some other dermatitis.”

Brunette TV host: “Ok, I won’t wear them very often. But any way tights often rip and tear.”

Marketing Director Nataliya Yesliuk: “Pantyhose are a very delicate item, so it means they need special treatment. Usually, all manufacturers indicate laundry instructions on the packing. Generally, the washing temperature should not be more than 30 degrees and also there are many washing detergents for hosiery such as special shampoos and many others.”

Exotic Pets – for love or for show?

by Helene, from Belarus

Savannah Breed Cat vs Common Barn Cat

…we would have never wanted  to make a show out of their life, or to tell how much they cost because they were family members, not things to buy and sell. (Helene, about her cats)

Savannah cat and beautiful owner in pantyhose

A cat that costs 8000 dollars? Would you like one? Insane, you would say, though still the thought might stay somewhere deep in your mind and  come out from time to time. A cat that costs 8000 dollars. Hmm, and what kind of animal it shall be? With golden fur and diamond eyes? If you are interested, just have a look at this scenario (the link to the original video is below).

Nice peaceful animal, looks like a properly-cared for pet. And beside this beautiful animal there is a beautiful woman, dressed in expensive clothes, with a proper make-up and hair style. But the most surprising thing is that this lady is wearing sheer tights! And the cat even doesn’t try to tear them! Actually, little bit strange for a proper cat, isn’t it? Immediately like a flash, a memory from my childhood. A small and a very sweet kitten is playing in the grass, I come up to this wonderful creature and he immediately climbs up my leg instead of a tree. Doesn’t matter that it is summer actually and I even do not wear tights or trousers.  My leg seems to be quite good for his sharp nails. He is extremely happy, and I have some red bleeding scratches. If I was wearing tights, like this lady with her cat, I sure would be much more disappointed, as this would add to my injury also money loss.

Savannah cat and beautiful owner in pantyhose 2Awful? I would not say so, this is just a normal experience of a normal child who loved this crazy small creature even though this kitten didn’t cost 8000 dollars. Actually, he didn’t cost any money, but surely he was more valuable than any treasure in the world. Valuable, because his mother was the favourite cat of the family, who was able to catch mice and play with kids, who always came to give a hug when her master was feeling not good, who wasn’t afraid to fight with other cats when they were coming to her yard. And we would have never wanted  to make a show out of their life, or to tell how much they cost  because they were family members, not things to buy and sell. They were not for creating the image, but for life. They were fighters and would never accept eating artificial food in front of camera just because their master wants to show how she cares. They were real.
So, dear pretty lady, properly dressed, with cared face and in thin tights, would you like to be shown like in a zoo? Or would you like that somebody feeds you in front of camera for a show, even though it is your favourite food? Or maybe somebody shall tell how cheap or expensive you are? Put yourself in place of the cat which you love so much. Do you love it as a family member or as an expensive thing? This is the question.

Pantyhose and Open Toe Shoes Debate

pantyhose and sandals 1Can pantyhose be worn with sandals?  Some fashion experts say yes, some say no. Whoever says “yes” from the fashion world states that such pantyhose should be maximum 10 den for such a summer look.

In the photo here we see the feet of Alexandra Savelyeva, a Russian singer, who participated in a fashion TV program and addressed the subject.

In that show, together with the host, Max Chernitsov (fashion designer), they came to a conclusion that in the summer pantyhose and sandals are fine as long as there are no seams showing and they match closely to the skin tone of the wearer.

Another popular Russian stylist said that pantyhose with open toe shoes is OK as long as it is ultra sheer, 5 – 8 den, so it doesn’t look  heavy.  However, on the runway from time to time we see women in opaques marching with open-toe shoes.

I guess that Alexandra (Sasha) Savelyeva followed such advice and actually wore barely there skin tone pantyhose with a mini dress to an event.  The photo displayed here of her wearing a dress and peep toe shoes is from there.

But she got criticized beyond belief by other people who said that if she dared to wear a mini, she should also dare to go with bare legs.  Perhaps they didn’t watch that show! I’d rather focus on the fact that her shoes and her dress don’t go so well together.

What is your opinion on sandals worn with pantyhose?

Japanese Pantyhose Tug of War Game

funny entertainment from Japan - hosiery stretching contestJapanese, an extra-ordinary nation, came up with a new game – pantyhose tug of war.

Two men put pantyhose legs over their head and who ever pulls it off the other one is the winner.

You can see in the background women laughing like never before.  The winner stands proudly with white pantyhose over his head for a while, enjoying the feeling of nylon victory.

Ka Show Tragedy at Cirque du Soleil – my condolences

Sarah Guyard-Guillort

Cirque du Soleil gymnast dies in tragic accident during ‘Ka’ show

I would like to say that I am deeply saddened by the death of the young performer from Cirque du Soleil, Sarah Guyard-Guillort in this Ka show tragedy.  She fell to her death on June 30th, 2013, during the wall climbing scene at the end of the show.  Some say that she could have slipped out of her safety harness.

As many of you may know by now, I am an avid fan of Cirque du Soleil.  No matter how much it costs, I would cut all other outings just so that I could go to see their shows.  I saw Ka last summer in Las Vegas.  To me this is more than just a performance.

Sarah died and we mourn this loss, no doubt that this Ka show tragedy will not be forgotten y the Cirque community.  Please consider though that every day artists like Sarah put their life at risk for what they love.  But they do it willingly for the art, it’s not just a job to them, it’s a way of life.

I think about how much they devote to the show, maybe only being able to imagine just part of the preparation, and I realize that such art is not just another show.  It’s something that hundreds of people devote their lives to create.  I support them in what they do and I greatly admire them for that.  Sometimes they literally pay with their life.
