My visit to Shine Fitness in Las Vegas

July 29, 2014 under Travel

Shine Fitness in Las VegasAfter I’ve seen the show Zumanity from Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas in February 2013, I just couldn’t get it out of my head since. One of my favourite artists is Dima Shine. When I learned that he has an alternative gym, I really wanted to see it some day.

Maybe it’s strange for some, but going to a fitness class was the top of my list for Las Vegas. Yes, shows are nice to watch, but at some point I began to wonder what it’s like to be doing those tricks on stage and how these artists train backstage. Some of the performers actually train or teach at Shine Fitness.

Actually, when I was packing for my trip to Las Vegas, I packed my yoga pants just for that. I wanted to be dressed appropriately for my visit, so I took a pair of my best pants by our local Vancouver brand called Public Myth.

Shine Fitness in Las Vegas - Kelly in anti-gravity yoga classFinally, my dream came true! So I registered online and came for a fun anti-gravity yoga class with Kelly. Here’s a photo of her doing one of the yoga positions that she teaches for more advanced classes.

Even though I was nervous and clumsy since it was my first time, she was very patient and reassuring. Now that I calmed down after all the new sensations, especially the upside down ones, I want to do it again.

I’ll be in Las Vegas again on August 6th, so if I am not pressed for time, I really hope to pay another visit. Maybe even I’ll get to see Dima himself, as they say that he comes in sometimes.

I want to express a huge thank you to Dima Shine and his business partner for opening Shine Fitness and to all the friendly staff who made my first visit so comfortable and welcoming.

What is a Gusset?

June 29, 2013 under News

control top pantyhoseIt is good to know that the word “gusset” is not only used for pantyhose.  It simply means a piece of material sewn into a structure to create a proper fit.  You can find gussets used in shirts, bags, and so on.  Let me try to answer the question – what is a gusset?

Pantyhose gusset brings some debate.  I may find the courage to address it at some point.  Let’s just say that some people think it is there in order to be able to wear pantyhose without additional underwear.

But from brands like Fiore we see a strange thing – they only have gussets in size M and L, but not in size S.  It’s there for the fit.  Some other brands may have synthetic gussets, also to create a proper fit.

Somehow larger the size, more need is there for additional fabric in between, or maybe it’s just a side effect of production limitations.  A Polish lady told me that Marilyn hosiery brand, for example, finally found a way to create plus size pantyhose without having to use a large gusset.

Our local yoga pants brand for example states that they add gussets to their pants in order to increase comfort and mobility of pants that will never ride up.  They openly say that it prevents the embarrassing problem when the seam of the pants cuts in between the women’s legs and creates a visible cleft.

Inserting gussets is a time consuming procedure, so you may notice that cheaper brands may not have it.  You may be interested to see how many pantyhose patents there are on the internet trying to scheme around this.

Opinions?  I am sure you’ll have some!

What is a gusset?

“A gusset makes for a much better fit as well as ensuring there is no seam directly over sensitive areas. It is no accident that all quality brands include a gusset … as indeed do lesser brands on their premium styles. Gussets tend to be omitted only to save money in production.”
