Here comes my late night rant about the growing popularity of leggings. Please share your thoughts too!
By Jessica from Calgary, Canada (the founder of Fantasy Stockings)
A few days ago I went to get my dental cleaning and I asked my hygienist, a young Caucasian Canadian-born woman in her early 20’s, if she wears pantyhose. She knows that this is what I sell, so the question didn’t come off as weird. She told me the truth, the way it is – no, she doesn’t wear it since childhood!
She started thinking about it and said that it looks like the whole trend just went away. When she was a child, her mom would dress her up in tights and dresses, but now she prefers to wear leggings instead. I thought about it some more and asked her, what would she wear if she wants to dress up really sexy for a nice date in November? She said that she would still wear leggings under her dress, but together with boots, so that the foot is not visible.
Does anyone still wear pantyhose in her family? Well, her mom used to, but stopped now. Her grandma still does. I made a joke that perhaps her grandmother could be my potential customer and she laughed. This popped into my head a few minutes ago before writing this post because I was browsing some dress code etiquette about shoes and hosiery on Youtube and my search lead me directly to a channel called “women over 50”.
Sadly this is the trend for many Canadian-born women. As I mentioned previously on my blog, another dental assistant from that same Calgary-based office, a 23 year old young woman, told me straight that she has never owned a pair of pantyhose in her life and at a recent wedding she attended the only person in pantyhose was the bride’s mother.
I would like to hear what you think on this subject. It does seem to me like leggings are taking over when it comes to the younger generation of Canadian youth. At any trade show I go to there will be at least a couple of vendors with racks of leggings in all sorts of tasteless circus patterns.
All the lovers of tight pants are just going to love this. Balenciaga, a French designer label, put out some models on the runway wearing tight shoe pants (as the tights are actually attached to the shoes) and spandex.
Some writers refer to these designs as fetishistic because of the tightness of the garments. It does make sense, especially by having the shoes made out of the same shade and fabric as the pants, an illusion of super long legs is created.
I read up a little bit on the founder of this almost a 100 year old label. Cristobal Balenciaga started out nicely, but then had to close his boutiques because of war. Obviously this didn’t stop him from making a come back. Just think about it for a minute, whatever obstacles our modern entrepreneurs are faced with are nothing like what he had. I guess that those who are meant to survive somehow will, no matter what walls keep them out.
Dress code: to have or not to have? As a sales manager I have been thinking about it a lot because my boss welcomes all possible styles out there.
I decided to wear smart casual clothes and sometimes mix styles (for meetings or trade shows), even though other employees are still changing their look every day. As for me, I like casual clothes, as I can relax and not think about all the discomfort a while blouse or shoes can cause.
I remember myself at school, when I liked outstanding bright colours, when I could put on pink tights and felt good about myself. But times change… as well as circumstances. What was good for a young girl doesn’t seem fine for an adult woman. What was good for school isn’t OK for an office.
Though my former habits haven’t died completely – I still like diversifying my smart casual with bright accessories. With tights, of course – I love fishnets, though they aren’t appropriate for all situations in life, just like some of my favourite fancy necklaces and purses.
During formal meetings with clients, I am wearing business clothes and nude tights. In general, dress code is a good thing as it brings order and gives the feeling of “belonging”, as long as it is not boring.
I was browsing through some foreign news and I spotted this photo of Demi Lovato, looking glamorous in a nice high cut bodysuit and nude fishnet shiny tights. This performance took place in Brazil on July 1st at the Villa Mix Festival.
She admits that Brazil is where most of her fans are and this is where her tours are the craziest. I can see why they like her voluptuous shape there!
Twitter is exploding with samples of her new song #SorryNotSorry and I can’t wait to see the video for that! She says that this song is dedicated to the haters. It looks like on the cover she has another amazing bodysuit.
This work is by an Italian Aritst, Giuseppe Palmisano, it just happened a few days ago in Pesaro, Italy, on June 25th. He scouted 300 women to wear white tights and pose for him. The art project is called Empty (Vuoto). Surprisingly, women did it free of charge just to support the art. They didn’t even get to keep the tights.
I’ve read somewhere that he is going to repeat it with darker skin ladies wearing black tights. However, I’m doing all this through Google Translate, so if someone here speaks Italian, can you have a look and let us know?
Giuseppe welcomes all women, regardless of size and age, but they can’t have any distracting tattoos. I couldn’t include all the photos that I found just because ladies are topless and I am trying to draw a line somewhere in terms of what I want to display on this blog, even though I think that artistic nudity is beautiful.
Carola tights by Fiore are finally in stock. Here are some photos of Julia’s legs in these cool melange tights with an over knee imitation pattern. Leave a comment if you want to see more photos done by Julia, she has such nice legs!
I found these photos of a sexy blogger modeling Milla tights by Fiore online. I don’t know any of her contact info unfortunately, so if you do, please tell me and I’ll at least give her credit and put a link to her site. Way to go, girl! You look stunning in that yellow dress and tights.
Here is a shot of me wearing 60 den microfiber tights by Gabriella. These are actually plus size! Currently they are on sale, 50% off. There are a few shades to pick from – chocolate, cappuccino, graphite, and black.
A fan ordered them and allowed me to model them to assess how stretchy they are. The waistline is quite stretchy. I managed to pull it up to my neck. Here is a video below of me showing them off and playing with the waist band.
Here are some photos you probably already managed to catch on my social media channels. I took these wearing XXL pair of turquoise Paula tights by Fiore to demonstrate how stretchy it is. They come in many fun colours.
There are a lot of customers lately looking for plus sizes. Paula is a 40 den microfiber style that comes in XL and XXL. So far it is the best seller on this site. It is literally the #1 item that I have so far sold most of.
Here are a few casual photos taken on my deck today. I was just about to put away some of my long sleeve tops yesterday, but today the weather got cold again and I am back to 60 den hosiery and a sweater. At least I never pack away my pantyhose, except for the fleece lined ones… even in the summer thicker ones are nice to wear at home instead of just pants.
The tights you see here are Bree by Fiore, 60 den, in graphite shade. There are a few pieces left in graphite and chocolate shades.
