This design looks amazing on her slim legs. I am sure as she was walking in that dress, men were secretly turning around for a second look.

Melange means “mix” in French. If you look at such tights, you’ll see that it’s like as if they have two colours mixed in them, both grey and black. Grey is always the undertone. So it can be grey/brown, grey/black, grey/burgundy, and so on.
It’s a neutral, muted option to combine with other clothing that you may want to draw attention to. In the photo here the model is wearing Michelle tights by Fiore in black.
Somehow for me the look of such tights is so comforting. It just looks warmer than any other 60 den because it has mixed yarn like that, as if I am looking at a knitted blanket.
Stylists say that such melange tights make the leg visibly fuller, so women with skinny legs like the one in the photo would benefit from wearing it.

I always found it fascinating when hosiery manufacturers would combine different denier in non-traditional ways. Like here, these Onella pantyhose by Fiore have 20 den and 40 den combined.
Is there any formal way to call such a design?
One reader already said that it should be called “hybrid type of hose” because it has the best of both worlds.

To all my friends who celebrate Easter, you may find it entertaining that in 2008 Gucci decided to run a series of pysanka-inspired designs. Pysanka is the art of Ukrainian Easter egg decoration. It’s quite a procedure!
With some precision wax application and alternating colouring solutions one can achieve incredibly detailed designs. One time, a very long time ago, when I was a teen, I had the experience of making such a decorative egg at an ethnic event.
By the way, for those of you who are interested in recycling pantyhose, it is used to dye Easter eggs. Pantyhose fabric plays the role of a casing that presses leaves or designs against the egg and thus leaving that shape uncoloured.
I am asking Julia from Ukraine to do a hosiery-inspired pysanka design for this blog. Will she do it? Your encouragement is greatly appreciated in both verbal and financial form.
In a Nylon Journal magazine there was a fun model of tights published with a subway line form Manhattan printed on it. It somehow reminds me of a song by Shane Yellowbird about his pick up truck where he says “I need a map ’cause I’m lost in your eyes” as his pick up line.
Could it be inspired by someone who got lost in the abyss of New York Metro? I can totally agree if that’s the case, Manhattan metro system could probably easily rank as one of the most sophisticated in the world.
