In a Nylon Journal magazine there was a fun model of tights published with a subway line form Manhattan printed on it. It somehow reminds me of a song by Shane Yellowbird about his pick up truck where he says “I need a map ’cause I’m lost in your eyes” as his pick up line.
Could it be inspired by someone who got lost in the abyss of New York Metro? I can totally agree if that’s the case, Manhattan metro system could probably easily rank as one of the most sophisticated in the world.
As you can learn from the history of hosiery, it was always regarded as something of higher class because simple peasants in villages could not afford it and only the wealthy would wear it.

This is a funny video of young guys doing a background dance for the main artist in sheer white pantyhose. As you see, it’s supposed to be humorous. Perhaps they were trying to warm up the audience this way, dancing in pantyhose like this.
In this case there is a competition for women to put on pantyhose on their men. Who will do it better? After the pantyhose is on, men are instructed to dance Swan Lake ballet in such an outfit.

A few brushes with controversy along the way haven’t stopped the rise to super model stardom for Australian Miranda Kerr; they instead have revealed her as a person with sound judgment, and a good heart. In 1997, at the age of thirteen, Miranda’s first modeling success came when she won a contest to appear in in Australia’s Dolly Magazine.
Fast forward to the present: Just a few weeks ago, People Magazine caught up with Miranda as she was preparing for the December fourth television show, “The 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show”. “What are you doing to prepare?” they asked. “… a lot of Pilates, yoga, boxing and working my core, butt and legs. I also drink healthy green juices everyday, and protein shakes.”
Miranda hit the United States market in a big way when she landed a lucrative contract with Maybelline New York in 2006, where her image carried the Maybelline message in print campaigns in major women’s beauty magazines including Cosmopolitan, CLEO, and Elle. After her successful Maybelline campaign, she became the first Australian model to be signed by Victoria’s Secret as the first Australian Victoria’s Secret Angel.
Miranda practices Nichiren Buddhism, a branch of Mahayana Buddhism based on the Lotus Sutra, which teaches that all people have an innate “Buddha Nature” and thus are capable of attaining enlightenment in their current form and present lifetime. She believes that “we have a responsibility to bring peace and harmony to our lives and the world.”
Stunningly beautiful, her model “trademark” is probably her dimples…. At the young age of twenty nine, we can expect much success for the talented Super Model Miranda Kerr who has not only modeled but started her own company, written an inspirational self-help book for teenage girls “Treasure Yourself”, and done extensive work for charity groups largely concerned with preservation of wildlife.

Is there such thing as a wrong shade of pantyhose? I found this photo on a forum. This woman is wearing pantyhose that looks slightly greener than her own skin tone. Isn’t it kind of strange? I would imagine it would look much better on a black girl, for example.

Pictures taken in a forest, under trees or with a large area of grass tend to be green, because of the reflection of the sun on the green leaves or the grass like above. In the same idea, pics taken in the snow tend to look bluer because of the reflection of the sky on the snow’s surface. I made a corrected version of this photo, if you’re interested. It’s fairer to judge a picture with the good equilibrium of the color tones.”
He says: “I corrected the yellow cast caused by the sun in the background and the green cast caused by the grass on the foreground. I also lowered the saturation of the colour of the girl’s face, as her face looked pinkish.”

If Mike is right about the colour cast, I’d say that she is actually wearing a good shade of pantyhose judging by the corrected photos. In terms of her skin tone – I think that the poor girl simply got a bit of a sunburn in the summer.
I found this ad somewhere and thought to share it with my readers. Is anyone nostalgic yet looking at those stockings with reinforced toes, soles, and heels? Silk stockings, despite their sky high price, were the most desirable accessory for women. Even Coco Chanel said that it’s better to have a wrinkle on the skin than on the stockings.
I was in Washington DC this summer, browsing the Smithsonian district. I kept on asking if they had vintage stockings since I’ve read on their blog that they do. Introduction of the nylon stockings was a major milestone in the clothing industry, as you can see from the history section of this blog.
Perhaps the exhibit was no longer displayed since I couldn’t find it. But if anyone of you have ever seen it there, please let me know and share your experiences with the rest of us.
Update from 2017: One of my internet friends here, Ian, says that he visited a car museum in England called the Lake’s Transport museum. They had a display of fashion from the 1960s and there was a pair of vintage stockings there by Mary Quant.
Doutzen Kroes is one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels of Dutch descent. She modeled for high end brands including Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Versace, and Tiffany & Co… the list goes on and I won’t bore you with it.
Born in the town of Eastermar, Netherlands in 1985, she signed up with an agency at 18 and quickly was told to lose weight. She just wasn’t skinny enough for "sample size". Instead of losing weight, she decided to do modeling that would embrace her curvy figure.
By Forbes magazine, she is now one of the top earning models with an estimated income of $6 million. Not bad for a model who was told that she is too fat.
In 2010 Doutzen Kroes participated in a "Beauty of Health" discussion on the impact of sample size, 34’’-24’’-24’’dimensions that were expected of her at the height of 1.78 m.
During filming of the movie “New in Town”, Renee Zellweger admits that it was very cold and she had to wear several pairs of pantyhose at once to stay warm.
“I never imagined that I would rejoice at the sight of multiple pairs of pantyhose laid out on the bed by the wardrobe people every morning.”
She’s right about that, it’s an essential accessory. Even though it doesn’t look like there is much material, this thin garment can make a big difference.
Even though I haven’t seen that new movie, but based on the trailer I think that Renee was referring to sheer nude pantyhose because it doesn’t look like she’s wearing it from afar.

People are dealing with the hard facts to accept about the loss of our pantyhose enthusiast, Sharri, also known as Sweet n Pantyhose. She passed away in the summer due to cancer. One of her fans, Aton, created this artistic tribute in the memory of her.
Sharri loved to be on the beach and she even filmed some of her videos from there. Also, she was a very sweet girl – that’s why the sky has the pattern of a honey comb.
