Polka Dot Pantyhose – Odd or Not?

I saw another blog featuring this outfit and I really liked the pantyhose.  No matter how bad the photos are, pantyhose always catches my eye.

I would like to open a discussion to whether even the cutest pattern can really be a fashion crime. In my opinion this is one of those cases.

Maybe she is just starting to model, but I’d seriously think about the theme of the shoot. This girl was competing with other models for some giveaway, but she didn’t win.  Could it be for the lack of styling?

However, I’ll tell you the truth, I was confused about the rest! Summer sandals combined with a sweater? Matrix-style stern sun glasses and vixen leather totally clashes with the innocent playful polka dot, and that garbage bin in the background ruins the composition.

I applaud her for trying though and for wearing pantyhose, even with those summer shoes that I think would look much better with tan 8 den rather than black and patterned hosiery.

What kind of hosiery would you choose for this outfit in order to make it a winner?

Swedish Diplomat Fired for His Illegal Pantyhose Smuggling Business

Swedish diplomat accused of smuggling pantyhose from Belarus into Russia

Case from 2009:  Moscow embassy fired a Swedish diplomat, Andres Martin Fors, who became nicknamed as a “pantyhose” diplomat who used his untouchable status to smuggle hosiery from a factory in Belarus to Russia without paying duties or taxes and giving it to local stores to sell on consignment basis.

Usually foreign diplomats are accused of espionage, but this one had a refreshingly new entrepreneurial case.  Still, because of diplomatic immunity the diplomat could not be arrested by Moscow police, but he was dismissed from his position in Moscow.  This is against Vienna convention for a diplomat to engage in such activity.

Celebrities in Mock Stocking Pantyhose

mock stockings pantyhose and celebrities

As the weather is getting colder, Vancouver is filled with Asian girls walking around in mock stocking pantyhose.  I even saw one in Costco the other day with runs in the sheer part all over that didn’t seem to bother her.  Today also spotted a few in transit.

I wrote more on the subject of mock stockings for the next issue of Finn Magazine (contact me for a promo code for that).  Even modeled in pantyhose like that for them, also wearing high heels and short dress, which made my legs look super sexy.  I must say though that Asian girls here only wear such style with flat shoes that are completely non-feminine and jean shorts, almost as an attempt to play down the sexiness of the design.

If I wear something like that, I want to look like a real sex bomb, so in my case flat shoes are out of question. My next “homework” for such designs is to experiment with different colours of mock stocking pantyhose to see which ones work best with my outfits.

Which one of these should I start with?

Hosiery shedding colour in the laundry – Why?

From what I know, the dye is actually supposed to penetrate the yarn, not just sit on top of it.  At least none of my own pantyhose shed colour.  But I hear about this kind of stuff happening to other people.

For example, women on dance forums complain that their dance hosiery fades after washing.

Any idea why?  Cheap brands?  Chinese production?

Azerbaijan: ban on sheer pantyhose

legs in pantyhoseIn the city of Nakhchivan, located in Azerbaijan, local government has banned women who have government funded jobs to wear nylon pantyhose. Their government consistently keeps on surprising the public with new bans – internet clubs, social media, and even Playstation salons.  Cafes and hair salons also got closed down.

School teachers are not allowed to wear high heels, short skirts, low cut tops.  They are also banned from wearing nail polish and from coloring their hair.  If a teacher would be dressed like that, she would not be able to enter the school. For civilians there are bans on walking in groups, hanging laundry on balconies, baking bread in certain ovens, and even performing some foreign-acquired funeral customs.

It is hard to say what causes this Muslim region to pass such laws, maybe an attempt to recover from the fashions and habits that remained from formal USSR.  I am surprised how a woman from this country even managed to win Eurovision song contest at some point. It could be that laws vary from region to region, for example Baku doesn’t have such laws.

So ladies, if you ever end up in that area for a business meeting, keep in mind that wearing sheer pantyhose is a bad idea!  In general, if you are going to such a country for business meeting, be aware that their standards may differ from ours.  As rough as it may sound, it may be even better not to go and send your male substitute instead.

Comment from Twitter:

“I’ve actually been to Azerbaijan. Nakhchivan is an autonomous area, geographically and politically separate from the rest.”

Patterned Toeless Hosiery

patterned toeless pantyhose

a lady wearing patterned toeless hosiery

As I was browsing the grocery isle I saw a very well dressed woman with her daughter (probably in her 20’s), both wearing black pantyhose.

The younger one had her pantyhose just black and basic with no design, but her mom looked like a real hosiery connoisseur.

The woman was dressed in toeless patterned pantyhose to my big surprise.  I’ve never saw toeless hosiery with a pattern, so I came up to her and asked where she got it from and what brand it was.

Coincidentally, I was also wearing black pantyhose with flats and shorts that day.  So all three of us were standing together dressed in black pantyhose and having a very intense hosiery discussion.

Turns out she got her pantyhose in Toronto at some Asian store, but she had no recollection of the brand or the name of the place where she bought it.

I explained to her that I have never seen such design before – pattern and toeless option combined.  That particular style she bought like that, already designed to be toeless, but turns out that she had a way to make her own toeless designs before just by cutting the seam.

I lifted my foot out of my shoe and standing in this position asked how it’s possible to cut off the toe section without creating runs.  The lady leaned and touched my foot, showing me that I only need to cut the seam and the toe itself must be reinforced in order for this to work.

Finally, I asked her if I could take a photo because I run a blog and she happily agree to pose and show off her nice legs.  Wow, that was such an informative trip to the grocery store!

July 28th – 1 year since Sweet n Pantyhose passed away

Sweet n Pantyhose 1 year since she passed away

This photo is taken from the memorial page of Sweet n Pantyhose – https://www.facebook.com/Stage4ColonCancer#

July 28, 2012 – this is the day when Sweet n Pantyhose passed away due to colon cancer that she was courageously fighting.

Perhaps I’ve never had a chance to meet this wonderful woman in person, but it doesn’t mean that she hasn’t affected my life, the same way she as affected lives of many.

Just recently on my Hawaiian vacation I put on a swimsuit over shiny pantyhose to take some sexy leg photos like she used to do.  Right away I thought about her, that style of modeling is something that I associate with Sweet.  Sunny beach, waves, and her cheerful smile and legs in shiny hosiery was a common scene in her modeling portfolio.

I would like to offer my condolences to Outlaw, her loving husband.  We miss her so much.  She became a legend for all her work and influence in the hosiery community.

There were "No Shows" for the "Bic Pantyhose"!

Written by David, United States
bic pantyhose package - collant
A candle lights up nice with a “Bic Click” disposable lighter, and a “Bic Stick” disposable pen will produce a nice reliable stream of ink for whatever one would want to write, but “Bic Pantyhose”?

Well you could say that they threw the party but no one came. There were several snags in the idea from the very start.

The 1976 press release announcing the new pantyhose line advised that Bic’s managers believed most pantyhose buyers were working women, not stay at home housewives. So they decided they would market the cheap disposable pantyhose line with the familiar yellow and black “Bic” logo in office and stationery supply stores only and advertise in trade and industry publications like “Today’s Secretary”.
bic lightersThis sounded kind of sterile and unimaginative to me not sexy or romantic. If I wore pantyhose, I would want to see my brand on attractive models in fashion magazines, or in boutiques, where I could also find ideas for outfits and accessories that might complement my legs not in an office trade magazine, stuck in between ads for staplers and liquid paper.

When I read the release, I caught a slight aroma of chauvinism. It almost smelled like butane Bic Perfume? They even tried that!

I could picture the “boys” in the Bic executive suite lighting their disposable cigars and saying, “That’s it! The “girls” can pick up a few pair of our pantyhose at the office store while their bosses are out on the golf course!” This, at a time when women as a social group were moving up higher in the executive suite and trying to earn their way out of stereotypes like being subservient to their male counterparts. They wanted to be respected on the golf course, not pandered to in the office supply store.

Ultimately the brand failed because the product was not a logical extension from Bic’s existing successful products. Consumers couldn’t make the mental or emotional connection between throw away pens and lighters, and women’s pantyhose. Additionally, the pantyhose line didn’t mesh with the manufacturing and distribution capabilities which Bic had mastered; the Bic managers weren’t sticking to what they knew. With pantyhose they were trying on something outside of their niche.
Bic-Tights package - disposable pantyhoseHerbert Jack Rotfeld, Department of Marketing, Auburn University, summed up Bic’s big goof this way:

“As a broader lesson, this is an example of a company that was more focused on the name than what the name means. In these days of product placement and viral marketing, companies of all types focus on brand awareness and an extensive effort to put their name out there (wherever “out there” might be). But it is not just having a name that is important, but the image that the name conveys to consumers.” Journal of Product and Brand Management, 2008
