Recently I’ve been listening to a talk on fetishes by Mistress Lotta, a Russian BDSM club owner. She was saying that no colour like black has that much impact on people’s mind. Only white maybe can get somewhat close to it. What is your opinion?

Our psychological appreciation of colour has to do with the many perceptions of our lives. We have associations, so called connotations, with certain colours.

It turns out that for black the common connotations are that it is sophisticated, expensive, severe, mysterious, stark, and simple. There are also people out there who would describe it as glum and sneaky, but I am certaintly in the first category!

I remember Tim Ferris (the author of the 4 Hour Work Week) talking in one of his videos about the joy of NOT wearing black. He was sitting there dressed almost like a parrot, frankly, in something orange and a bunch of other shades that simply looked like something a only a person with a poor taste would choose.

I do like other colours in my wardrobe too, but I try not to wear too many because otherwise it looks overwhelming. Naturally, at least half of my wardrobe is black.

It sure extends to my pantyhose preferences! I remember the very first wholesale batch that I imported and I was surprised to hear from my friends that they wish I would bring some more colours other than black. It didn’t even occur to me at the time that someone would want a different colour. As you know from this blog though, I have expanded my hosiery preferences and I now experiment with many other shades too.
